New York Hospital Queens Appoints David Rose, M.D., Chairman of Medicine

Flushing, N.Y., March 8, 2011 – David N. Rose, M.D., F.A.C.P., has been appointed chairman, Department of Medicine, New York Hospital Queens (NYHQ). He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and is board-certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Rose comes to NYHQ from Baystate Medical Center, in Springfield, Mass., where he was chief, General Medicine and Geriatrics, and vice chair, Department of Internal Medicine. In addition, Dr. Rose served as professor of medicine, Tufts University.

“Dr. Rose was brought on board to strengthen the primary care infrastructure at New York Hospital Queens. His solid team building background is the approach we expect will give us the best results,” said Stephen Rimar, M.D., senior vice president and chief medical officer, NYHQ. “He will also be instrumental in helping us as we implement new models of care such as “patient-centered medical homes” and an accountable care organization (ACO), and the use of an electronic medical record system.

“All of the newer concepts in health care have a single common denominator, that is managing a patient’s care seamlessly across a continuum, in different institutional settings, such as a primary physician’s office, hospital and or nursing/rehabilitation center,” Dr. Rose said. “I am very excited to work with the NYHQ medical staff as these innovative concepts of health care take root here. New York Hospital Queens already has a strong tradition of offering patient-focused care to the Queens community, that’s a great foundation to build upon,” Dr. Rose added.

After achieving his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Dr. Rose earned his Doctorate in Medicine degree from New York Medical College. He completed his post-graduate training in internal medicine at Beth Israel Hospital in Manhattan and did a residency in Preventive Medicine and Public Health at Mount Sinai Medical Center.

He has published original research articles in peer-reviewed publications including the Journal of the American Medical Association, the Archives of Internal Medicine, the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society and the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.

New York Hospital Queens is a member of the NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System and an affiliate of the Weill Medical College of Cornell University.
