New York Hospital Queens Gala Raises Nearly $1 Million to Fight Cancer
Queens Health Care Advocates Prabha and Kanak Golia Given Hospital’s Highest Honor

Flushing, New York, June 5, 2012-- A Spring Night Gala became a "Night at the Museum" at The Metropolitan Museum of Art for 600 benefactors, hospital leaders and physicians of New York Hospital Queens on May 31. The ancient Egyptian Temple of Dendur in The Sackler Wing was the majestic backdrop for Prabha and Kanak Golia as they were conferred the hospital's highest honor, the Pacesetter Award. Nearly $1 million was raised to benefit an expansion of The Cancer Center at NYHQ.

The Golias were given the award for their support of the health, education and social well-being of the community, locally and in India. The Golias, in conjunction with George F. Heinrich, M.D., chairman of the Board of Trustees, and his wife, Debra, have accepted a leadership role in the initiative to expand The Cancer Center at NYHQ.

“Cancer is something you hear about every day. It is something we discuss as a family at dinner. Both my daughter and son-in-law are specialists who deal with cancer. This is a very important issue for my family,” said Mr. Golia.

“Lung, brain, skin, and bone… treating these cancers and protecting a community also takes a community,” said Dr. Heinrich. “I’m proud to say that our vision for enhancing and expanding our comprehensive Cancer Center is attracting the investment of a community – from the medical professionals who want to practice the art and science of oncology, to the patients who entrust their lives to us. This will help us gain further commitments and gather the resources that are necessary to continue developing a world class, comprehensive, Cancer Center.”

“I want to make sure that we keep in mind the beneficiaries of the support that will result from this wonderful event – our patients who come to us for ways to treat, and even cure, cancer. When a loved one needs screening, testing, a procedure or treatment –talk to our team of experts here at New York Hospital Queens,” said Stephen S. Mills, president and chief executive officer. “We treat our patients with a higher level of expertise and service, and then send them back home to their lives, families, work and community.”
